A work order from the National Revenue Board (NBR) in the name of joint secretary (admin and finance) Asadul Islam, was released on 10 March.
In this, Sia Enterprise was given the task to appoint 1,743 persons through outsourcing to collect tax on domestic animals near the border.
To appoint the collectors, Sia, published an advert in the paper; the work order mentioned that the workforce has to be appointed by 12 May.
But on 14 May, the NBR has said in a letter that the NBR does not have a joint secretary by the name of Asadul Islam, the work order in question is false and the NBR has no link with it whatsoever.
The letter was sent to the commander of RAB-3, asking for legal steps to be taken.
Lt. Col. Md. Emranul Hassan, said: “We began investigation after getting the letter and, on 15 April, arrested two fraudsters from Malibagh.
These people have been swindling innocent people for a long time and have illegally taken huge amount of money from job seekers.”
ASP, ABM Faizul Islam, who led the operation against the con men, say: “To appoint people. The two con artists, Harun ur Rashid, 54 and Nurul Islam Sheikh, 56 gave adverts in a daily paper.”
The group used a printing press in Malibagh as a cover for their nefarious operation, added the police officer. Both of the conmen are now in prison.
