DMP issues alert over possible militant attack

A police official said, “The current law and order situation is satisfactory but the commissioner has asked for security to be ramped up in the diplomatic zones, near churches, pagodas and temples.”

Meanwhile, a Zee news report in India said alluding to Indian Intelligence Bureau that there may be a militant attack in Bangladesh.

On 29 April, a bomb attack was carried out on police members in Gulisthan for which IS claimed responsibility. On that day, RAB carried out an offensive at a militant hideout which killed two people.

AIG (media) of police HQ, Sohel Rana, dispelled any threat of a militant attack around the Buddha Purnima.

“However, security will be increased,” he stated.

Additional check-posts will be placed, local religious leaders have been asked to chalk out security plans after talking to the public and the law.

A letter from the CTTC has been sent all over the country and orders were given to gather information about tenants living in rented apartments.

Meanwhile, DMP police has ordered all police officials to make the holiday markets effective and evict the hawkers on the footpaths in phases and not abruptly.

Police commissioner, Asaduzzamn Mia has also ordered to bring the traffic jam to a tolerable level.

We must ensure that people can go back home before iftar, he said.

The police officer also ordered an anti-adulteration drive for Ramadan and said that mobile courts are already in operation.

The commissioner expressed anger at the recent arrest of a policeman with yaba.

“Strict measures will be taken against those breaking the law.”
