Nusrat murder: Feni SP to be withdrawn

SM Jahangir Alam Sarkar FILE PHOTOThe authorities concerned are going to take action against several police officials including SM Jahangir Alam Sarkar, superintendent of police in Feni, for their negligence in dealing the case filed over the murder of Feni madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi, says a official of Police Headquarter (PHQ).
“The SP will be withdrawn as a punitive action and will be attached to another unit,” said Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general (media and PR) at the PHQ.
Disciplinary action against the SP is underway at the home ministry, he added.
The development came after the committee formed by the PHQ to probe the murder submitted a set of recommendation on Apr 30.
Former OC of Sonagazi Police Moazzem Hossain has been suspended and attached to the office of deputy inspector general (DIG) of Rangpur rang as per committee’s recommendation, said AIG Sohel.
SI Md Yusuf and SI Iqbal Ahammed have been attached to the DIG office of Khulna rang and the Khagrachari Hill Tract district office respectively.
These police officials have not been transferred and will be given no duty during their attachment to the respective offices as part of the punitive action, said AIG Sohel.
On 6, Nusrat, a student of Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrasa in, was set ablaze allegedly for refusing to withdraw sexual abuse charges against principal Siraj Ud Doula.
After battling critical burn injuries for five days, the 18-year-old died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Apr 10.
Most of the suspects are now behind the bars with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina personally assuring that every single person involved in Nusrat’s murder would be brought to book.
