Representational image. Photo/India.comAt least 41 children have been raped and three others subjected to attempted rape in the eight days between May 1 and 8, says a rights group.
Of the rape victims, 37 were girls and four were boys while three of the victims were killed after rape, said Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) in a statement on Thursday (May 9).
The statement said the findings have been complied based on news reports of six national dailies.
The Dhaka-based MJF expressed grave concern over the rise in child rape incidents across Bangladesh.
Urging the government to take punitive measures to prevent violence and torture against children, the rights body said incidents of violence against women and children have gone to an intolerable situation due to the culture of impunity.
MJF also expressed their concern and offered condolence over the death of Shahinoor Akhter Tania, who was killed after being gang raped in Kishoreganj recently.
