Shahbagh Police Station, Dhaka. File Photo/CollectedA pistol and 16 rounds of bullets which went missing from the rest room of Shahbagh police station have not been recovered.
ASI Himangshu Saha has been suspended over the matter since the weapon was issued to his name.
However, an investigation is underway to find who took the pistol and the bullets, said Deputy Police Commissioner Maruf Hossain.
Himangshu said: “I have given my statement to the OC; hopefully, the real matter will be revealed.”
Shahbagh police station sources said that on May 5 last, ASI Himangshu came back to the police station in the afternoon after finishing his duty; later, he went to the rest room. After 2:30pm in the afternoon, he could not find the pistol and the bullets.
Meanwhile, losing a weapon inside the police station is deemed unnatural by police high ups. CCTV footage outside the rest room is being analysed.
Regarding misplacement of a government weapon, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said: “If someone is found to have neglected his/her duty then that person must face justice.”
Inspector of Shahbagh Police Station (investigation) Arifur Rahman said: “A case has been lodged over the misplacement of a weapon and hopefully, the truth will come out through investigation.”
Shahbagh Police Station sources say that during the incident, a suspicious youth was seen in the building.
DMP Deputy Commissioner Maruf Hossain, said, “We cannot say anything conclusively unless the investigation is over.”
