Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ first Boeing Dreamliner 787-8The graft watchdog has ordered 147 Biman Bangladesh officials, including sacked managing director AM Mosaddique Ahmed over its investigation into alleged graft in the national flag carrier.
It has also slapped Mosaddique and nine other officials with overseas travel ban on Thursday (May 2).
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has asked top officials of the Special Branch and Immigration Police, and Immigration Police’s officer-in-charge at Shahjalal International Airport on Thursday to bar Mosaddique and nine other Biman officials from leaving the country.
The others are Biman ground service supervisors GM Zakir Hossain, Md Mizanur Rahman and AKM Masum Billah, Junior Ground Officer and CBA leader Md Moshiqur Rahman, commercial supervisors Md Rafiqul Alam and Golam Kaiser Ahmed, commercial officers Md Zawed Tarique Khan and Mahfuzul Karim Siddique, and Junior Commercial Officer Marf Mehedi Hasan.
On Tuesday (Apr 30), Biman board of directors took the decision to remove Mosaddique after getting proofs of irregularities in the appointment of pilots along with a barrage of allegations of lack of transparency.
ACC officials said on Thursday that it has summoned a total of 147 officials into its investigation which was launched after the anti-graft agency submitted a report to the government in February, when it identified 19 areas of corruption in the national flag carrier.
The report said that 11 areas of corruption have been indentified in civil aviation including maintenance, repair, purchase, property management, construction, development work, appointment of consultants, recruitment of staff, promotions and transfer, lease of airport spaces, and stalls and billboard fare.
Besides, eight types of corruption including purchase, lease of aircraft, ticket sales, ticket sales, export and import of cargo, catering, recruitment and transfer hit the national flag carrier.
