HC writ seeks info on sexual harassment prevention committee

Supreme court lawyer, Fauzia Karim, lodged the writ on Monday (Apr 29).
She said: “I have asked for the verdict of 2009 to be treated as law until a new law is enacted.”
The writ also asked for directives to formulate laws by the law ministry and cabinet committee to prevent sexual harassment.
In 2009, a joint High Court bench gave a verdict to prevent sexual repression and molestation, under which, a directive was given to form a sexual harassment prevention committee at every institution and refrain from publishing the identity of the harassed person.
The verdict specified a complaint centre at all education institute comprised mainly of women and publication of name of the victim only when the perpetrator is in police custody.
