Bangladeshi products in Qatar market.Demand of Bangladeshi products has surged in Qatar due to the ongoing blockade, imposed a year ago by several neighboring countries, including Saudi Arabia.

Although the blockade created a crisis, Qatar's economy survived with the help of some other countries.
Market survey of several business establishments shows a rising demand for Bangladeshi agricultural products like banana, snake gourd, teasel gourd, eggplant, lemon, potato, chili etc. since the barriers were imposed.
This is in addition to the demand for ready-made garment and dry food.
The possibility of exporting medicines to Qatar has also been created due to the blockade.
A 10-member delegation of Bangladesh Medicinal Industry Association recently visited Qatar to discuss potential opportunities.
In a presentation held at the headquarters of Doha Bank on October 5 last, the delegation gave a detailed idea about Bangladesh's pharmaceutical industry before Qatari entrepreneurs, importers and government officials.
Saudi Arabia, Arab Emirates and Bahrain announced an economic and border blockade on Qatar June 5 last year. As a result, the import of medicines, construction materials, vegetables, dairy products and essential commodities by Qatar from Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt came to a halt.
In an instant response, Qatar started importing essential commodities from Iran, Morocco and Turkey. At the same time, the small Arab country started production of some daily essentials to reduce import dependency.

After the blockade began, Moutaj al-Khayat, a top businessman of the country and Chairman of Power International Holdings, bought 4,000 dairy cows of 'Holstein' varieties from Australia and United States and started producing milk inside the country to meet the milk crisis.
Dr Khalid Rashed al-Khatte, an economist with knowledge of monetary policy of different countries, told the Bangla Tribune: “Neighbouring countries created an artificial crisis, conspiring to destablilise Qatari economy.
“But Qatar has already survived the blow.”
Observing that inflation occurs if the value of the currency decreases, the Qatari economist said, “The price of daily essentials is supposed to increase at that time, but so far, the value of Riyal (the currency of Qatar) has not dipped in the international market.”
Terming the investment from countries imposing sanctions as ‘Negligible’ he asserted: “even if they withdraw their total investment from Qatar, there will be no adverse impact.”
Meanwhile, on the first anniversary of the blockade, Qatar has taken a strong retaliatory decision against imposing countries. From May 26, it has banned selling of goods imported from the blockade imposing countries.
This decision has been conveyed to the traders by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce of Qatar.
According to the instruction, the Inspector of the Commerce Ministry will conduct raids at different stores with stern action taken against those violating the decision.
