Education Minister Dipu Moni has urged universities to implement combined entrance test for admission like that of the medical colleges’.
“Although the universities oppose, combined entrance test for admission is necessary for sake of the students and guardians,” she said on Wednesday (Apr 10).
The minister said, “If we can hold combined entrance tests for admission to medical colleges, why not for the universities.
“If we all (the universities) show, a little interest then combined entrance test is possible,” Dipu Moni said hoping that universities “will cooperate” on the matter.
Her remarks came at a view exchange meeting with the journalists at her office at the Secretariat.
The minister also informed that as many as 1,529 institutions are likely to be covered under the government’s the monthly pay order (MPO) scheme within a month.
“We hope to make the announcement of another batch of MPO inclusion within a month,” said Dipu Moni.
“All the institutions which have fulfilled the criteria will be included in the MPO scheme.
Referring to Ebtedayee madrasa teachers’ demand on MPO-inclusion, Dipu Moni said that a decision is yet to be taken. “We are mulling what can be done for them,” she said
Speaking of the education law, Dipu Moni said it will be ‘finalised’ this year.
She said her ministry would work with a consultant to formulate the law so it doesn’t contradict with existing laws related to education.
According the ministry sources, the government has decided to appoint a consultant from UNICEF to work on the new education law.
Citing the implementation of National Education Policy is underway, Dipu Moni said the government wants “to form an education commission in line with the policy.”
