The Supreme Court has upheld the High Court order that granted six-month interim bail to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Cumilla arson case.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, gave the order on Sunday (Apr 7) before turning down the state’s plea against bail for the former prime minister.
Earlier on Mar 31, the chamber judge froze the bail of BNP chief until Apr 7.
On Mar 6, the High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman’s bench granted Khaleda six-month interim bail after hearing a petition filed her lawyers.
Eight people were killed, and 20 others injured, when a petrol bomb was hurled at a bus at Jogmohanpur in Chouddagram during the BNP-led alliance’s movement on Feb 3, 2015.
