Elite police unit Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has honoured its 59 officers with special awards for bravery during raids in 2018.
Its Director General Benazir Ahmed handed over the awards -under two categories- gallantry and service - on Tuesday (Mar 26).
Thirty-four officers received the special awards for gallantry while 25 others for their outstanding service.
Moreover, the battalions were also awarded in four categories — militancy, narcotics, arms and general.
RAB-13 won the award for making most progress in nabbing militancy while RAB-7 won in the other three categories.“Militancy uprising in the north started in Rajshahi, Rangpur and the char are regions,” RAB-13 chief Additional Deputy Inspector General Md Mozammel Hoque told Bangla Tribune.
“We have been able to arrest a large number of people involved with a militant network,” he said.
He added that last year they arrested 33 people including the coordinator and commander of the network and seized ammunition and explosives amongst many other things.
“Recognition of our work gives us incentives to work better in the future,” Hoque said.
RAB-7 chief Miftah Uddin Ahmed whose battalion won three awards said, “We were always alert in nabbing crime and hence we have more success. This will continue in the future as well.”
