Khaleda Zia FILE PHOTOA Dhaka court has deferred the submission of the probe report in a defamation case against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
On Sunday, a metropolitan magistrate set Jun 26 after police failed to submit the report.
On Oct 14, 2014, former PM Khaleda, at a reception for the Hindu community, said “Awami League wears the mask of secularism and believes no religion. People of no religion are safe with them. AL have grabbed the property of Hindus and attacked them since taking office.”
Following Khaleda’s remarks, Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad President AB Siddiqui filed a defamation case with a Dhaka court on Oct 21 accusing the BNP.
According to case statement, Khaleda’s speech hurt religious sensitivity as well as created a communal rift.
The court took the matter into its cognizance and ordered the Shahbag police to investigate.
