Student union elections will be gradually introduced in all the universities of the country, said Education Minister Dipu Moni.
Her remarks came during a media call on Wednesday (Mar 13) at the secretariat.
“It is important to incorporate elections in universities and colleges,” she said and added that there is still the matter of educational institutions preparing for it.
“It’s a democratic process and we don’t want to force it on anyone. But we do want this democratic system to be practised in a fair way in all the institutions.”
“Since the DUCSU (Dhaka University Central Student Union) polls took place, I hope the rest will happen to,” the minister said.
The DUCSU polls took place after 28 years on Mar 11 where Nurul Haque Nur of Shadharan Chhatra Adhikar Shangrakkhan Parishad and Golam Rabbani of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) have been elected as vice president (VP) and general secretary (GS) respectively.
