Severe traffic congestion has brought the capital to a standstill as the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) restricted vehicular movement in Dhaka University and adjacent areas for the DUCSU polls.

Extreme congestion at Dhaka roads were seen since Monday (Mar 11) morning.

Vehicles were stuck on the roads for hours at the capital’s New Market, Shahbagh, Matsha Bhaban, Hotel Ruposhi Bangla intersection, Ramna and adjacent areas. As the day progressed, the traffic clog eventually extended to other roads in the capital causing sufferings for the Dhaka dwellers.

Patients and their families who were heading to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatments had to remain stuck on roads and take alternative routes at the cost of hours to reach the destination.

Bangla Tribune’s Chief Reporter Udisa Islam said that it took her some two hours from Shewrapara to Sukrabad after she started around 10:30am.

“Usually it takes around 40 minutes in other days,” she said before adding, “The congestion was severe from Shishumela to Shukrabad.”
