Student bodies at the Dhaka University have started campaigning officially for polls to the Central Students’ Union (DUCSU).
On Monday (Mar 4), aspirants initiated politicking immediately after the end of Dhaka University’s Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman’s speech at the senate building auditorium.
Understandably, the polls campaign has brought about a lively atmosphere in the university campus. Arts building, Business faculty, ‘Oporajeyo Bangla,’ ‘Hakim Chattar,’ ‘Madhur Canteen,’ Central Library and many other places were abuzz with the candidates. However, activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were not seen to be engaging in politicking. Furthermore, Bangladesh General Student Rights Conservation Council is soliciting votes with Nurul Haque Nuru, a luminary in the quota reform movement and VP aspirant, in the lead.

Again, Progressive Student Unity supported VP aspirant, Liton Nandi, has assumed a very humble attitude in his approach to the voters. Besides, individual candidates, individual coalition, Autonomous Independent Council, Bangladesh Chhatra Maitree and quota reformists are also taking part in the polls.
VP aspirant and joint convener of Bangladesh General Student Rights Conservation Council Nurul Haque Nuru expressed his misgivings about the continuation of uninterrupted campaigning.
On the other hand, Mostafizur Rahman, BCD supported candidate for the post of VP, accused the university authority and Election Commission (EC) for not providing them with ballot numbers, for which, they are unable to publish pamphlets at present. Among which, 21 candidates will run for the vice-president (VP) post, 14 for the general secretary post, 13 for the assistant general secretary post, 11 for the liberation war affairs secretary post, 9 for the science and technology affairs secretary post, 9 for the common room and cafeteria affairs secretary post, 11 for the international affairs secretary post, 8 for the literature affairs secretary post, 12 for the cultural affairs secretary post, 11 for the sports affairs secretary post, 10 for the student transport affairs secretary post, 14 for the social services secretary post and 86 candidates will contend for the 13 member posts in DUCSU election.
