Several days after the SSC results, the process for college admission starts. As per the current process, students submit application mentioning their ‘college of choice’ through online.
College admission process this year started on May 13. When the students tried to submit application, many of them could not, as somebody has already submitted applications in their names. They even could not know the college name mentioned as ‘choice’.
The issue came into light Sunday after several hundred students along with their guardians thronged at Dhaka Education Board to inquire over the issue.
The Dhaka Board authorities said driven by fear of getting no student at all, many college authorities, after collecting all information, themselves submitted students’ applications mentioning the names of own colleges.
Board officials said we are investigating into the issue. A new cell has been opened at the board office to look after the issue.
Students gathered in front of Dhaka Education Board at Bakshibazar area in the capital told the Dhaka Tribune: “We came here for a solution as someone has already submitted fake applications in our names.”
Meanwhile, the fake applicants have thrown the Dhaka Board officials into an unprecedented problem. Like the students, they also seemed at a loss over what to do. Opening a new cell, they were seen taking applications from the students.
One student, Zahir Aslam, came from Madaripur. He alleged to Bangla Tribune that someone has submitted fake application in his son’s name.
Contacted, Dhaka Board’s college invigilator Professor Harun Or Rashid said, “we are receiving allegations of fake applications every day. As the number of fake applications seems huge, we have opened a cell allotting two rooms in the board office to settle the matter.”
“The cell is receiving complaints from the appellant after seeing his main mark-sheet. And after cross-examining the complaint, we are cancelling his previous application for admission (the fake one), so that he can submit his application anew,” he added.
Dhaka Education Board Chairman Muhammad Ziaul Huq said, “Such fake applications are submitted every year. The college authorities usually commit the crime. If we get any complain against any college of submitting fake applications, stern measures would be taken against that college.”
