Police detained a Chhatra League leader from the capital’s Basila area as he attempted to obstruct the ongoing eviction drive to remove illegal establishments.

However, he was later released after a written undertaking from him hours after his detention on Tuesday (Feb 19) afternoon.
The man, identified as Asaduzzaman Talukder Labu, claimed to be a leader of ruling party student wing, tried to prevent the eviction campaign to free a canal from encroachment.

Executive Magistrate Mostafizur Rahman, who ordered to take the man into custody, told Bangla Tribune, “He (Labu) tried to prevent us from doing our job and misbehaved with the officials on duty.”

“Action against his misconduct will be taken after questioning at the end of today’s drive,” added Rahman.
