Two members of 'Neo-JMB' have been detained in Dhaka.
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested the duo during separate drives at the city’s Jatrabari and Demra area on Friday (Feb 16), police said
The arrestees have been identified as Md Al Amin, 27, and Sheikh Golam Hossain alias Milad, 27, said DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Cyber Security and Crime Unit Nazmul Islam.
Islam said, “Tipped-off that militants were holding a secret meeting in Jatrabari’s Matuail area to prepare plans to carry out target killings the important persons and launch terror attacks on important establishments, a CTTC team raided the area and arrested Al Amin around 4:30pm on Friday.
Two other suspects fled the scene.
On primary interrogation, Al Amin confessed to his involvement with ‘Neo-JMB’, an ultra-radical offshoot of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), Islam said.
Al Amin, who hails from Sylhet, joined the militant outfit in 2015 and used to give “provocative and aggressive” posts in his Facebook account.
Following information gleaned from him, police arrested Milad from Demra Staff Quarter area, on the outskirts of Dhaka.
Police also recovered several jihadist books and three mobile phone handsets from their possession.
A case has been filed against the duo with Jatrabari police under the anti-terrorism and the digital security acts.
