The ringleaders of two rackets involved in leaking exam question papers and 44 others have been arrested, say police.
The Crime Investigation Department’s Organized Crime Unit said that the group consisting of teachers, students, government employees and press employees is responsible for the leak of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) and university entrance question papers.
According to CID, a Rakibul Hassam Esami is the mastermind behind the operation, while Khan Bahadur, Saiful Islam, Sajib Islam, Bani Israel, Asharaful Islam Arif and Maruf Hassan were his accomplices.
The six others who led the operation are Alip Kumar Biswas, Ibrahim Molla, Hafizur Rahman Hafiz, Masudur Rahman Tajul, Mostafa Kamal and Ayub Ali Badhan.
Police arrested the main ringleaders of the rackets, Hafizur Rahman Hafiz and Masud Rahman Tajul which led them to make an arrest of a total of 46 people.CID’s chief Additional Inspector General Hemayet Hossain said that the arrests have led to the uprooting of the whole operation.
According to CID, they became vigilant about the leak of question papers in 2017 when they arrested two Dhaka University students Rana and Mamun involved with the digital question paper fraud.
A case was filed with Shahbag police in October of that year and based on information from Rana and Mamun, arrested a student named Rafi, who was hoping to get admission at DU.
After the arrestees spilled more information, CID arrested seven more students who led them to the operation chief Natore District Sports official Rakibul Hassan Esami, press staffer Khan Bahadur, his relative Saiful, Rajshahi University student Boni Israel and Maruf.
The organized team leaked the question papers from the press in 2015 and 2016 and coached the university entrance candidates the night before the exams at a house in Savar.
