The Supreme Court has upheld the decision of High Court to grant bail to BNP chief Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain delivered the judgment Wednesday.
The Appellate Division was expected to give its decision on Tuesday, but it was delayed as the court allowed Attorney General Mahbubey Alam to present further arguments, After for an hour of hearing, a four-member bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, fixed Wednesday for delivering the verdict on the appeals.
The High Court on Mar 12 granted bail to Khaleda who was jailed on Feb 8 after a trial court convicted her of embezzling foreign donations made to the Zia Orphanage Trust.
