Tara Mia, a physically challenged beggar from Sunamganj, has been granted bail by the High Court in a case filed over attack on police.
The bench of Justice Md Rais Uddin and Justice Jahangir Hossain passed the order on Wednesday (Jan 24).
Lawyer Md Abidul Haque and Md Saiful Islam moved the bail plea.
Tara Mia, a man with deformed right arm, was among the 52 accused in the case filed under the Special Powers Act ahead of the 11th parliamentary polls on Dec 28.
Jamalganj police Sub-Inspector Md Tarikul Islam lodged the case on charges to committing conspiracy and attempting to murder members of the police.
According to the case dossier, the plaintiff received a tip-off that the accused were plotting to unleash violence at the Panchagram Madrasa polling centre. Nearly 60 to 70 people including those named in the case statement, armed with machetes, Hockey Sticks and local weapons, attacked the police, when they reached the scene, with the intent to kill.
On Tuesday (Jan 22), Tara Mia went to the High Court to be present during his bail plea hearing.
During the hearing, Tara Mia’s counsel described the court his client’s physical condition and presented a copy of a news report, featuring photos of him, which was published in an English Daily.
Considering overall aspects including Tara Mia’s physical condition, the court granted six-month bail to the Sunamganj resident.
