Nearly half the doctors not found in hospitals: ACC

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has raided 10 state-owned hospitals across the country to find nearly half the doctors not at their workstations.
During the raid on Monday (Jan 21), the graft watchdog found that 92 out of the 230 doctors in the 10 hospitals did not turn up for their duties.
They found that 62 percent of the doctors on upazila level, 40 percent on district level and 40 percent in the capital were not present at their stations.
At the Dhaka’s Mugda General Hospital, a staffer was arrested and fired for illegal monetary transaction, said ACC Director General (DG) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury.
Chowdhury said that the negligence of doctors in the health sector has taken a terrible turn and warned of dismissal if the situation was repeated.
The ACC will write to those who were unavailable during the raid.
The Sarkari Karmachari Hospital and Nazira Bazar Government Mother & Children Health Care Hospital were raided in addition to Mugda General Hospital in Dhaka.
The hospitals out of Dhaka that were raided are- Rangpur’s Pirgacha Upazila Health Complex, Rajshahi’s Godagari Upazila Health Complex, Dinajpur Sadar Hospital, Tangail’s Delduar Upazila Health Complex, Muktagacha Health Complex in Mymensingh, Kushtia’s Kumarkhali Upazila Health Complex, Pabna Sadar Hospital and Atghoria Upazila Health Complex.
