Supporters flock at AL victory rally amid tight security

Law enforcers have taken tight security measures for Awami Leagues victory rally to celebrate polls victory. Anticipating massive turnout, the law enforcers have taken tight security measures with security personnel from cross agencies including police, Rapid Action Battalions and Detective Branch are stationed at Shahbagh, Doel Chattar, Motsho Bhaban, TSC area and at all entry points to the venue.

Bangla Tribune/Sazzad Hossain“Every person is being checked at the entries and the law enforcers are alert to ensure peaceful order in the rally,” Said Ramna Police Deputy Commissioner Maruf Hossain.

In order to further strengthen the security plain cloth police are deployed in and around the venue, Police sources say.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will address the rally as its chief guest.

Awami League supporters and activists from its front bodies started to gather at the venue since Saturday morning.

The rally began with a cultural segment which featured singer Momtaz among others.

Information Minister and AL publicity affairs secretary Hasan Mahmud and AL Deputy publicity affairs secretary Aminul Islam Amin will jointly moderate the programme.

On Jan 4, The Awami League informed the media that the party is going to organise a grand rally on Jan 19 to celebrate its landslide victory on Dec 30 national polls which led them to an  unprecedented third straight term

Awami league won 259 of 299 seats while the Grand Alliance it leads won a total of 288 seats handing AL a commanding majority.

Opposition alliance the Jatiya Oikya Front, with the BNP as its largest member, won only seven seats.

Rejecting the outcome of the election as 'farcical' citing rigging and violence it said the seven MPs-elect will not join the parliament.
