The Appellate Division has ruled a ‘no order’ against the petition seeking to stay the bail of former caretaker government advisor Barrister Moinul Hossain, who was sued for harassment.
Chamber Judge Court Justice Md Nuruzzaman gave the ‘no order’ on Thursday (Jan 17).
This means that there is no bar in Moinul’s release in the 14 libel suits filed against him in Sherpur, Kurigram, Bhola, Jhenaidah, Rajbari, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj, Cox’s Bazar, Magura, Narail, Chattogram, Jashore and Netrokona.
Additional Attorney General Momtazuddin Fakir moved for the state while Khandaker Mahbub Hossain moved for Moinul Hossain.
There are a total of 18 lawsuits against Moinul. He has already been granted bail in 15 of them including the one where he was sued under the ICT act by talk show host Masuda Bhatti.
The HC has stayed the proceedings of the cases and granted him a six-month bail.
The hearings for three of the cases are still pending but since the proceedings have been stayed, there is no bar in Moinul’s release from prison, his counsel said.
