Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has called for the judicial investigation into the violence at different parts of the country during the 11th Parliamentary Election.
The anti-graft body expressed concern as it saw the election "questionable and debatable" due to the allegations of violations of the code of conduct, use of force, and death of 19 people.
In a media statement on Tuesday (Dec 31), its Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said, "Necessary steps will be taken, based on a fair and impartial investigation into the allegations on multiple instances of violence and violation of the code of conduct, for which the election results have come under questions.
"From the very beginning, we have been in favour of creating equal opportunities for the parties."
Dr Zaman says, "It is essential to investigate into the Election Commission’s shortcomings in ensuring a peaceful election, so I urge the government to initiate a judicial inquiry.”
In the interest of ensuring that the formation of the new government is based on fair results collected from a fair poll, he said, “An investigation is mandatory in order to preserve democracy, dignity, trust and acceptance.”
