A fire, which broke out in Purana Paltan's 16th storied Zaman Tower building, on Friday (Dec 28) afternoon is now under control, says Fire Service and Civil Defence officials.
"As many as 80 firefighters of 15 units doused the fire by 6pm," Fire Sevice Director General Brig Gen Ali Ahmed told the media.
Earlier around 2:42pm the fire broke out at the buildings 8th floor, said control room duty office Rasel Sikder told Bangla Tribune.
As many as 15 units of firefighters rushed to the scene to douse the fire, he added.
The building houses opposition alliance Jaitya Oikya Front's office at its 4th floor and online news portal SaraBangla’s in its 16th.Deputy Director of Fire Service Debashish Bardhan told Bangla Tribune, “Firefighters have rescued six from the building while six others are still stuck in the building.”
“Rescue personnel have kept them safe and they will be brought down once the fire is under control,” he added.He said that it's being suspected that the fire broke out from a Server Room of a Credit Rating farm on the 8th floor.
Local resident Kajal told Bangla Tribune, this is the third time in two years fire has broken out in the building.
