Keeping the election in view, Chhatra League is active within the Dhaka University campus but there’s no presence of Chhatra Dal. Reportedly, Chhatra League is determined to prevent the entry of Chhatra Dal within the campus. All Chhatra League activists are in the campus. To keep the workers and activists motivated, the Chhatra League has organised workshops, underlining progress and development. Starting on Dec 26, this will run till Dec 31.
Meanwhile, Chhatra Dal could not enter Dhaka University campus because it has been out of power for such a long time. Reportedly, Chhatra League has declared the Chhatra Dal as an anti-liberation force.
Chhatra League president of Dhaka University, Sanjit Chandra Das, said, “We shall resist the anti-independence forces wherever we see them in the campus.”
Chhatra League is accused of establishing domination within the campus though they deny this.
The members of other student bodies do not have a prominent presence with many alleging that they have come under attack from Chhatra League members. The members of leftist parties say that they have faced opposition while carrying out rallies on campaigns.
Reportedly, last Tuesday, seven leaders and workers of Chhatra Federation were injured when then were allegedly attacked by Chhatra League supporters.
Dhaka University proctor, Professor Dr AKM Golam Rabbani, told Bangla Tribune, “It’s not right that all organisations do not exist in harmony; a few weeks ago we had discussions in the campus at Dhaka University Central Student's Union (DUCSU) with all student bodies.”
Relevant to note, at the DUCSU talks, university administration bought Chhatra Dal under special security and, after talks, escorted them out of the campus.
Dhaka University Chhatra Dal president, Al Mehedi Talukder, said, “Many of the Chhatra League leaders do not have student status; the university authority failed to ensure harmonious existence of all sides.”
Whenever we went to the campus, we faced assault and attacks, he added.
Secretary of outgoing Chhatra League, Rakib Hossain, says, “We are not concerned about who is coming or not; as long as we are here, Chhatra Dal has not power to enter the campus.”
Meanwhile, Dhaka University Chhatra Federation president, Umme Habiba Benzir, says, “The concept that there is harmonious co-existence within campus is a travesty.”
Chhatra League has one-party domination in the campus and a few days ago our activists were beaten.
Chhatra League’s talk about co-existence is hollow rhetoric, added Umme Habiba.
Meanwhile, Chhatra League president, Sanjit Chandra Das, says, “If someone tried to vitiate the environment of the campus then Chhatra League will prevent it, we welcome all parties but not Jamaat.”
