A general view of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. BANGLA TRIBUNE/file photoA petition has been filed with the High Court challenging the Election Commission’s decision to clear 25 Jamaat-e-Islami candidates to run for the Dec 30 polls.

Barrister Tania Amir filed the plea on Wednesday (Dec 26) on behalf of three people including Tarikat Federation Secretary General Syed Mohammad Rezaul Haque Chandpuri.

The HC bench of justices JBM Hassan and Khairul Alam fixed Thursday (Dec 27) for the hearing after the plea was produced before it.

On Dec 23, the EC decided to allow the Jamaat members to contest the 11th Parliamentary Election after it found no legal scope to scrap their candidacies.

The decision came following another HC order to swiftly decide on a plea challenging the candidacy of the unregistered party’s member.

The EC, however, said it would the upper court about its decision.

Twenty-two members of the party are contesting in the upcoming polls under the BNP banner with its polls logo paddy sheaf and three as independent candidates.
