International Crimes Tribunal (Bangladesh)The war crimes verdict against Riaz Uddin Fakir from Mymensingh will be announced on Thursday.
The three-member International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) headed by Justice Md Shahinur Islam reserved its judgement after concluding the trial on Mar 21.
On Wednesday, the court scheduled the verdict delivery.
Fakir is accused of atrocities like, murder, mass killings, abduction, torture and rape during the 1971 War of Independence.
ICT prosecutors had leveled charges against two other suspects in the same case — Amzad Ali and Waiz Uddin. Ali died while in police custody while Uddin died as a fugitive.
According to the ICT’s investigation arm, Fakir was a member of Al-Badr, a paramilitary force responsible for mass killings during Bangladesh’s Liberation War against Pakistan in 1971. He was involved with Jamaat-e-Islami that had opposed the liberation of struggle.
