HC scraps eight BNP leaders’ nomination

The 11th Parliamentary election is slated for Dec 30.

The High Court has scrapped the nomination of eight BNP candidates for not resigning from their posts of upazila chairman.
The HC bench of Justice JBM Hassan and Justice Md Khairul Alam have the verdict on Thursday (Dec 20) after hearing their respective pleas.
The candidates whose nominations have been rejected are- Fraidul Kabir Shami for Jamalpur-4, Abdul Muhith Talikder for Bogura-3, Moslem Uddin for Brahmanbaria-4, Asaduzzaman for Rangpur-1,Mahmud Hossain from Mymensingh-8, Abdul Majid for Jhenaidah-2, Fazlur Rahman for Jaipurhat-1 and Abu Syed Chaad for Rajshahi-6.
Deputy Attorney General Motahar Hossain Saju moved for the State while Advocate Shah Manjurul Hoque moved for the Election Commission.
Previously the commission had accepted their nominations despite them not stepping down from their executive posts. A plea was later filed with the HC challenging the EC’s decision after which the verdict was given.
