BASIC Bank is accused of giving loans without collateral and using false documents and fictitious names and organisations in violation of rules and regulations. The fifth round grilling of former Basic Bank chairman Sheikh Abdul Hye Bachchu by the ant-graft body has been rescheduled.

Bacchu was supposed to appear before the investigators of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday (May 7), but his counsel filed a plea seeking two months time.
ACC spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said that Bacchu has been given seven days and the interrogation is now scheduled for May 15.
The ACC initiated the quizzing of Bachchu and directors of the bank after several rounds of Supreme Court observations regarding corruption at the state-owned specialised bank.
After the first round of ACC quizzing on Dec 4 last year, the former Jatiya Party MP said he considered himself innocent.
BASIC Bank is accused of giving loans without collateral and using false documents and fictitious names and organisations in violation of the rules and regulations.
After nearly four years of investigation, the national antigraft agency started 56 cases at three police stations in Dhaka, accusing 156 individuals, including 26 bank officials over a Tk 35 billion loan scam.
But the absence of Bachchu and other prominent members of the board of directors on the list of suspects had prompted controversy, forcing the ACC to question the former chairman.
