Graft case against Mirza Abbas to continue

Senior BNP leader Mirza AbbasThe High Court has adjourned the hearing for two weeks of the case filed against BNP leader Mirza Abbas on charges of acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income.

It clears the way to run the case in the judicial court.

The Appellate Division bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, rejected a plea by the BNP National Standing Committee member for hearing on the case to quash the charges.
In August 2007, the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case accusing Abbas of corruption involving over Tk 59.7 billion.

Besides, the ACC said it also found assets worth around Tk 3.34 million not mentioned in the statement submitted to the graft watchdog.
