HC scraps Partho’s writ seeking EVM for Bhola-1

BJP Chairman Andaleev Rahman ParthoThe High Court has scrapped BNP led 20-party Alliance leader Andaleev Rahman Partho’s petition seeking Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in his constituency, Bhola-1.
The HC bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali gave the orders on Monday (Dec 3).
On Nov 30, Partho, who is the chairman of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) issued a letter to the Election Commission (EC) saying that even though Oikya Front and BNP were against the use of EVMs the people of Bhola-1 want to cast their franchise digitally.
In the letter, he also expressed his willingness to bear all expenses which may be needed to setup the digital voting system there.
However, upon not receiving a reply from the EC, Partho filed a plea with the HC seeking a response by Dec 3.
The six parliamentary seats, chosen through a lottery Nov 26 from a list of 48 seats, are Dhaka 5 and 13, Chattogram 9, Rangpur 3, Khulna 2 and Shatkhira 2.
