The government is yet to respond to a High Court rule on child marriage issued five months back.

On April 10 this year, the High Court issued the rule on ‘Child Marriage Restraint Act 2017’ instructing the cabinet secretary, law secretary, and other relevant parties to respond within one month as Bangladesh Jatiya Mohila Ainjibi Samity and Naripokkho filed a writ petition with the court challenging the legality of Section 19 of the act.

Petitioners’ lawyer Fawzia Karim told the Bangla Tribune, ‘I don’t know whether the rule is responded or not. Because, according to the rules, we will get a copy of the response. We yet get any copy.’

She said they would inform the court about the issue after the High Court vacation.
