Murtaza’s, (known as Motiur Rahman in Malysia), legs and hands were broken and taking him to be dead, the abductors ditched him on a road side.Murtaza Ali from Pabna came back to Bangladesh after working twelve years in Malaysia but staying in Bangladesh for two years he decided to go back. But this time, he became a victim of abduction with a Tk. 3 lakh ransom asked from his family.

When the demand was not met, Murtaza’s, (known as Motiur Rahman in Malysia), legs and hands were broken and taking him to be dead, the abductors ditched him on a road side.

But he managed to survive and with the help of Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Laumpur and support from expatriate Bangladeshis, came back on 22 November last.

BRAC migration programme is monitoring his medication and treatment.

His return was possible as the Bangladesh High Commission paid his hospital fees plus the return ticket.

Now the unfortunate man is undergoing treatment at the Orthopedic Hospital.

Dr. Shyamol Chandra Debnath, says: “first Murtaza has to get well and then we can resort to surgery.”

Currently, physiotherapy is ongoing, he said.

Head of BRAC’s migration programme, Shariful Hassan, said: “we must ensure a permanent treatment facility for those who come back from overseas after being deceived and tortured.”

Bangladesh High Commission in Malaysia says that once Murtaza speaks, information can be taken from him and a case lodged.

In a state of deep trauma, Murtaza is currently unable to talk.
