The German government has taken an initiative to meet the lack of workers in the country. Under this move, a new draft law has already been formulated.
Bangladesh migration experts feel that to catch the German market, potential workers from Bangladesh will have to be given skill development training.
To prove skill level, a potential worker has to provide proof of training from a recognised institution.
The new draft law gives preference to workers in hospitality, information technology and electrical engineering.
To look for jobs as a chef, IT technician and metal industry, a person will get the chance to remain in Germany for six months. On top, a skilled worker will get permission of residence. According to Institute for Employment Research, there are 12 lakh vacancies in Germany at the moment.
German interior minister, Horst Seehofer, told the media that to keep the German economy rolling, preference will be given to workers from third world countries.
Researcher of Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit, RRMMRU, Dr Mohammad Jalal Uddin Sikder said, “To avail of this chance, the government has to upgrade the German-Bangladesh Training Centre in Mirpur.”
We could not produce skilled workers; to take this chance, we can ask Germany to invest here to develop skilled workers, he added.
The Technical Training Centres, TTCs, can also be improved through public-private partnership.
Chairman of the Overseas Worker Development Programme, Shakirul Islam, told Bangla Tribune, “We must also emphasise on language development.”
