The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will scrutinise the candidates’ information in wealth statement while filing nomination for the 11th Parliamentary Election.
The graft watchdog will also verify the candidates’ and their families’ information in line with the tax rerun submitted to the National Board of Revenue.
ACC, however, will not act before the election slated for Dec 30.
The development came after ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmood briefed the media at his city office on Tuesday (Nov 27).
Mahmood said, “It’s true that corruption exists. But the country has been more developed.”
“Now, people want a corruption free country and the ACC is working to achieve this goal,” he said.
On Nov 19, the graft watchdog boss warned the prospective candidates on providing false information in wealth statement while filing nomination.
“The election is not our concern ... Rather, we will see whether the candidates are providing accurate information in their wealth statement filed with the election officials,” said Mahmood.
