Till October of the running year, there have been 184 killings in the city. Of them, 14 were killed over control of the much controversial scrap fabric trade and cable business control. The others are due to hijacking, family feud and so on.
On November 9, in Mirpur, scrap fabric, Mohiuddin Mohon, was killed. A case was lodged by the wife of the deceased at Pallabi thana.
The police have not been able to arrest anyone who was directly involved in the killing, though they say that investigation is underway.
Due to feud resulting from the control of scrap fabric trade, former Shechashebak League leader, Mahbubur Rahman Gama, and three others were killed.
Police sources say that from 2014 till October of the current year, 1069 murders were committed in the city with the highest 262 in 2014 and lowest 165 in 2016.
Joint commissioner of DMP’s detective and criminal department, Md. Mahbub Alam, told Bangla Tribune: “there have been 43 murders over control of business and this is not too many; the crime scene in the city is under control.”
Killed trader Mohon’s wife, Tamanna, says: “Mohon used to get threats on a regular basis and at one point stopped the business but picked it up recently at the request of a garment trader.”
She identifies one Dilip and his accomplices for the threats and the killing.
On 9 May, 2018, armed hoodlums entered Badda Jagoroni Club and killed satellite dish businessman Babu. In the same manner, several others were killed as a result of clashes resulting from business interests.
Police sources say that in Badda of the capital, there have been several killings over establishment of local authority, trade of satellite connections and internal differences.
The name of one Dalim-Robin group has emerged who reportedly carry out killings using others in Bangladesh while staying in Malaysia.
DMP’s additional deputy-commissioner, Shahjahan Saju, told Bangla Tribune: “we have arrested most criminals who were linked to killings in Badda area and work is underway to prepare the charge sheets.”
