A female college student has died after falling from a public transport in Dhaka.

The incident was reported on Monday from the capital’s Shanir Akhra.

Nusrat Jahan Jhuma, a first-year student at the Eden Women’s College, lived with her family in Kadamtali.

She was involved in the accident while returning home from college around 1pm on Monday, said her brother Md Rassel.

“Jhuma saw a speed breaker and, expecting that the driver of the Leguna would slow down, got ready to get off,” he said. “But the driver sped up suddenly and she was thrown from the vehicle.”

Four-wheeler passenger vehicles capable of carrying 12 people are commonly known as Legunas in Dhaka.

With injuries on the head, Jhuma was rushed to a local hospital.

She was then transferred to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the doctors pronounced her dead, said Sub-Inspector Bachchu Mia of the DMCH police camp.
