Police said on Tuesday (Nov 20) that they have arrested six people linked to vandalism and arson of police vehicles during the Nov 14 clash in front of the BNP’s headquarters at Dhaka’s Naya Paltan.
“At least 78 people have been held in the cases filed over the incident. The latest arrests were made on Monday by the Detective Branch, when six people were held,” Dhaka metro police’s Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam told the media.
He said that the six arrested on Monday were involved in setting police vehicles on fire.
“We had obtained pictures and video footages of the incident from the media and went through it. They (the six) have been identified from those,” said the senior police officer.
At a media briefing, police provided details of the key suspects and their role during the attack.
HK Hossain AliAn adherent of BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas, is a resident of Shahjahanpur Railway Colony. He is vying for the post of the president of ward No. 11 unit of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the BNP’s student front.
Police said he was the helmeted man in a black shirt who was seen on a police car with his arms stretched during the clash.
Shohag BhuiyanA resident of the capital’s North Shahjahanpur, Shohag is the son of Selim Bhuiyan of Cumilla. He serves as the general secretary of the JCD’s North Shahjahanpur unit. Police said he was seen in still images and video footages armed with a bamboo stick and clashing with law enforces.
Ashraful Islam RobinRobin, who lives in the capital’s Sutrapur, is the joint general secretary of JCD’s Dhaka metro North unit. He is the son Mofij Uddin from Gazipur’s Kapashia. Police said he was seen with a bamboo stick in processions during the clash.
Md Abbas AliA resident of Dhaka’s Kafrul, Abbas, according to police, is a member of the JCD’s central committee. He is the son of Hazrat Ali from Jaipurhat.
