Former PM and BNP chief Khaleda Zia BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has moved the High Court against seven years jail term in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.

Her counsel Nawshad Jamir has confirmed that an appeal seeking her acquittal has been filed with the court on Sunday (Nov 18).

On Oct 29, the former prime minister was found guilty under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947 and was fined Tk 1 million in addition to her jail term.

Khaleda’s former political affairs secretary Harris Chowdhury, his former aide and former BIWTA acting director Ziaul Islam Munna, and former Dhaka mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka’s personal secretary Monirul Islam Khan are the three others convicted in the case.

Harris Chowdhury has been at large since the start of the case and has also been given life sentence in the Aug 21 grenade attack case.

Khaleda is already serving a 10-year term at the old jailhouse in Nazimuddin Road for her involvement in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case
