A Chattogram Court has sent senior BNP Leader Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury to jail in a case filed under the ICT Act.
Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Akbar Hossain Mridha passed the order on Sunday (Oct 21) after rejecting Khasru’s bail extension plea.
Chattogram City Chhatra League acting General Secretary Jakaria Dastogir filed the case against Khasru over an audio conversation, leaked on Aug 4.
In that conversation, Khasru, a BNP National Standing Committee Member, reportedly instigated a student to carry out sabotage during the students’ road-safety protests.
Khasru secured bail from the High Court in the case filed under section 57 of ICT Act and section 15 of Special Powers Act.
Oct 7, he surrendered before a lower court with a fresh bail-plea on when the High Court’s bail period ended.
The court adjourned the hearing for decisions on the matter until Oct 21.
Meanwhile, BNP expressed it concerned demanding his release.
Its Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, in a statement, said, “We demand the false lawsuit against Chowdhury be withdrawn as well as his immediate release.”
