Three petitions by jailed BNP chief Khaleda Zia, including the appeal seeking acquittal in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft, case have been kept in the High Court’s (HC) cause list on Sunday (Oct 14).

The other two pleas are — bail petition in Cumilla arson case and seeking to freeze proceedings of the Zia Charitable Trust case in absence of Khaleda, Barrister AKM Ehsanur Rahman, one of the counsels of the BNP chief, told Bangla Tribune

The bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice SM Mozibur Rahman is expected to hear the matter on the arson case while the petition in Charitable Trust graft by Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice S M Kuddus Zaman. 

The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md. Mostafizur Rahman will hear the appeal against the trial court’s verdict in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft, which ordered a five-year prison term for Khaleda.

A three-time premier, Khaleda is serving her term at the old jailhouse in Dhaka since Feb 8, when a Dhaka special judge’s court convicted her of embezzling foreign donations made to the orphanage.
