ACC presses charges on ex-BNP minister Shahjahan Siraj

Former BNP minister Shahjahan SirajThe Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) has brought charges of misuse of power and embezzling money against former BNP minister Shahjahan Siraj.
The graft watchdog has submitted the charge sheet at Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate court on Monday (Oct 8) against former minister and one Awlad Hossain, the owner of Kishoreganj Paper House.
According to the case documents, Siraj, who was the textile and jute minister during the 2001-06 BNP regime, illegally sold 10.45 acres of land in Kishoreganj worth Tk 20 million that belonged to Bangladesh Jute Corporation.
He allegedly went against a committee at the Jute and Textile Ministry and cut a deal with Awlad Hossain , selling the land for approximately Tk 6 million, keeping a hefty amount of money for himself.
ACC Deputy Director Farid Ahmed Patwary filed a case against the former BNP leader on Nov 2, 2016 regarding the matter.
