Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s media call at its headquarters on Thursday. The perpetrators of the attack on Dhaka University vice-chancellor’s residence were trained people, says the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) chief.
“It’s clear from the pattern of the attack that it was job by professionals,” Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told a media briefing on Thursday.
Describing the violent incidents on the Dhaka University campus, including the attack on VC’s residence, as ‘totally unexpected’, he said, “The attackers destroyed the CCTV cameras and the hard disk for storing security footages”.
Amid clashes between police and demonstrators on the campus, a group of people barged in to the vice-chancellor’s residence early on Monday, before vandalising furniture and home appliances. They also set fire and damaged vehicles parked inside the premises.
Vice-Chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman and his family members, however, were unharmed.
Soon after the attack, he told the media that it was an attempt on his life.
