Khaleda to be taken to BSMMU Saturday

BNP Chairperson Khaleda ZiaIncarcerated BNP chief Khaleda Zia is will be shifted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital after 3pm Saturday.

Inspector General of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin has said that the jail authorities have taken necessary preparations to shift the BNP chief to BSMMU as ordered by the High Court (HC).

The High Court on Thursday (Sept 4), issued an order giving permission to the former prime minister to avail treatment from doctors of her preference.

On Sept 9, a petition was filed with the HC seeking private medical care for Khaleda.

Previously, a BNP delegation led by Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also met with Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan regarding the matter.

Soon after the meeting, BSMMU Hospital authorities formed a medical board for Khaleda as per the government’s directive.

Khaleda, a three-time premier, is now serving a five-year term at the capital’s old jailhouse since Feb 8 when she was convicted of embezzling foreign donations made to the Zia Orphanage Trust.
