The review hearing of Saiful Islam Mamun, sentenced to death for the killing of Saudi embassy official, Kalaf Al Ali, has concluded.
The appellate division, led by Syed Mahmud Hossain, has fixed Sunday, Oct 7 to give an order.
At the court, hearing on behalf of Saiful was by lawyer Akhtar Hamid; earlier, the appellate division upheld the high court’s verdict which gave death sentence to Mamun and life imprisonment to Al Amin, Akbar Ali Lalu and Rafiqul Islam.
Later, Mamun lodged a review of the verdict. On Dec 30, 2012, five persons accused of the killing were handed the death sentence by quick justice tribunal 4. Later, after listening to appeals, the high court gave a verdict on Nov 28, 2013.
High court maintained the death sentence for one, gave live imprisonment to three and exonerated one.
On Mar 5 midnight, Khalaf was shot on road 120 of the diplomatic area, dying later at the hospital of the bullet wound.
On Jun 4, police arrested Mamun and his cohorts from Dakhinkhan with a revolver.
At the confession, all three admitted to killing Khalaf who, as per their statement, intervened during mugging.
