Hifazat-e Islam chief Shah Ahmed Shafi is planning to host a reception for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as Parliament has passed the law recognising top Qawmi Madrasa degree.
On Sept 19, the House passed the 'Making Dawrae Hadith (Takmil) Certificate in Qawmi Madrasah Equivalent to Master's Degree (Islamic Studies and Arabic)'.
It was designed on the basis of the Apr 13 gazette notification by the education ministry recognising the Dawrae Hadith degree equivalent to master's degree.
The government had also formed the committee headed by Qawmi Madrasa Board Chairman Shafi, who runs the Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa in Chattogram’s Hathazari, for the standardisation of the certificate.
The decision to host a reception for the prime minister came on Monday during the meeting presided over by Shafi at the Hathazari madrasa.
According to people familiar with the matter, the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka has been set as the venue, but a date is yet to be fixed.
Qawmi madrasa education has been part of the education system in this region since the British period. Currently, some 1.5 million students study in 14,000 Qawmi madrasas in the country.
