Appeal hearing against Shahidul’s prison division on Oct 1

Shahidul Alam accused of spreading rumours in ICT case. BANGLATRIBUNE/Sazzad HossainSupreme Court has fixed Oct 1 for the hearing on a state appeal to stay the high court order which gave photographer Shahidul Alam first class status in prison.
Chamber justice Iman Ali fixed the date on Tuesday for a full bench hearing. At this time, state was represented by attorney general Mahbubey Alam while Shahidul Alam was represented by lawyers, Sharif Ahmed Bhuiyan and Tanim Hossain Shaon.
On Aug 27, chief magistrate Saifuzzaman Hero gave order to grant division to Shahidul Alam as per jail code. Later, high court gave order for giving first class to Alam following a writ by the photographer’s wife, Rehnuma Alam.
State wanted a stay on the order to which the court asked the state to lodge a leave to appeal. After the appeal was placed on Tuesday (Sept 25), October 1 was fixed for the hearing.
Shahidul Alam was arrested in a case filed under Section 57 of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act on Aug 5 night, few hours after he had given an interview to Qatar-based television channel Al Jazeera on the student protests for road safety.
