Reform in quota to public services is imperative to uphold freedom fighters’ honour, says eminent writer Prof Muhammad Zafar Iqbal has said.
His comments came on Monday while speaking to the media at the Shahjalal University Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet, where he is a teacher.
Describing the existing quota system as disproportionate, he said, “The people are agitated over the freedom fighters’ quota. Freedom fighters and their families are being disrespected,” he said.
According to him, quotas are needed to help the under-privileged population. “But, it is not reasonable to have high number of reserved posts. It must be balanced.”
About the attack on the student, he said, “It is condemnable act by the police.”
